The story follows his childhood, his acquaintance with an escaped convict whom he helps, his sudden contact with a rich lady, news of him coming into a lot of money, and in the end, losing it. And yes, with a love story too. In short, it is the rise and apparent fall of Mr Pip. But wait, I have not given away the suspense yet.
Mission is to rescue the US General Carnaby, who has been captured by the Nazis and is being held at the headquarters of the German Secret Service – Schloss Adler, a fortress high in the snow-covered Bavarian Alps. General Carnaby is obviously a very important person, but what is more important, is the fact that he has knowledge of the plans for the invasion of Normandy.
Three Singles to Adventure is probably the most unique book I have read till date. First of all, the story begins, not with the first chapter as usual, but with the prelude. Secondly, the book is about two hundred pages long but in reading it, never have I once felt bored. There is always action.
So to disrupt Nataraj’s peace of mind and trouble him, Vasu the taxidermist- the real Man-Eater of Malgudi – comes in.
He believes that civilization will continue to advance till it reaches perfection and ultimately destroy itself. He is not very much off the mark when he arrives in the future and he discovers that society, as he knew it, has fallen into ruins, literally and metaphorically.
They sink one U-Boat only to find another on their tail again. The first condor went down, but they just discovered another one keeping an eye on them. Just as one saboteur is apprehended, another is discovered.
The case was as obscure as ever, save one factor. The only thing that tied all three murders together, was the complete lack of any motive.
