Hello everyone! Welcome or welcome back to my blog. Jeffrey Archer is one of my favorite authors and today, and am going to review one of Jeffrey Archer’s bestsellers, Heads You Win. Please check out my other book reviews, too, if you haven’t already. So without further ado, let’s get started:
About the Author:
Jeffrey Howard Archer, Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare (born 15 April 1940) is an English novelist, life peer and former politician. Before becoming an author, Archer was a Member of Parliament. (1969–1974), but did not seek re-election after a financial scandal that left him almost bankrupt. He revived his fortunes as a best-selling novelist; his books have sold more than 320 million copies worldwide. He was made a life peer in 1992 and subsequently became Conservative candidate to be the first elected Mayor of London.
Review:
Alexander Karpenko was born to a leader, and was a born leader. During the time of his youth, USSR was under the rule the rule of the KGB. Alexander’s father Konstantin was the head of a secret organization planning to overthrow the KGB. But before his father gets the chance, Konstantin if assassinated by the KGB. To save themselves, Alexander and his mother must flee their home in Leningrad, USSR. With the help of his uncle, a worker at the docks, he decide to escape in one of the ships. But when they finally arrive, a challenge awaits them – do they board a ship bound for the UK, or for the USA? Alexander leaves this decision to the toss of a coin.
This action decides the future of Alexander and his mother, and a spectacular double-twist turns the story on its heels. Across thirty years and two lives of one man covering two continents, Heads You Win is certainly interesting. Alexander settles into his life and soon stops worrying about his homeland. But, life is strange. Even after he has spent decades away from his native land, he gets recalled. He now knows that his destiny lies in his homeland and begins his journey back. To take up from where his father left off. To lead the world’s largest country by area.
Heads You Win is a breathtaking thriller that will stimulate your imagination and take you through ideas which seem impossible. Moreover, Jeffrey Archer knows how to save the ‘best’ for the last. A numbing twist right at the end changes the whole perspective of the story, and everything that ever happened before.
Heads You Win is definitely a thriller. It is quick-paced, non-repetitive and not much descriptive. Though it has a very interesting ending, the book itself is thoroughly enjoyable, and an obvious Jeffrey Archer classic.
